Bumper Cars

2008-02-29 15:28:09

HAHAHA! Yeah Tiger, we would have fun playing. I was just in the kitchen and
Calvin came in...now I have a small kitchen so needless to say "BUMPER CARS"
came up...He just rolled his eyes and said we need our own amusement park!LOL!
Yeah, Boy do we have to make changes....I bet NO ONE can make as many as we have
to and stick with it. My mom just called and wondered if I would like some
Goulosh...Boy the sound of it made me buckle under...I told her no..."well it
isn't spicy...I can't eat spicy ya know" I explained it has tomatos and tomato
sauce so that would produce acid not to mention hamburger and I have given up
red meat...She just said "OH" so I told her I am taking it slow and easy till I
KNOW what and what I can and can't eat good.....It is worth it to feel better!!!

Candy? you just have to find the motivation. Even if it's 10 mins a
day you can do it. Those big red therapy balls are great for
balance too. I have shitty balance myself. The more I make my body
do the work to walk the better at it I been. You can NEVER give up
your determination or motivation to do so is to admit defeat over
your stroke and that it has won...don't let it.

Weight gain

2008-02-24 10:41:45

Weight gain? My weight has yo-yoed most of my life at first right
after my stroke I lost a whole lot of weight because of my diet but
as soon as I could eat solids myself again boy, did I begin packing
it on. I got to the largest I ever have. I thought the face
staring back at me in the mirror was ugly and disgusting. I
couldn't stand it so here I am.
That was about 6-7 months ago but I have not gone on yet another
diet, I now know that if I was gonna lose weight and keep it off I
was gonna have to drastically change the way I eat. It's really
really hard but you CAN do it. So far I've shed like 5" and have
lost around 25lbs. Through good ole diet and exercise, I walk on my
treadmill and do crunches.
Still have a ways to go but it's a start.

Friday night

Sorry Cindy :p guess we're all just a bunch of lamers now, lol.
Friday night? just another day to me :) Since I don't work now I

cause most places of importance are closed and tv sucks basically :
( I get on here alot more on the weekend.

Re: Health care-in Canada

2008-02-24 00:29:05

I personally, have never had a problem. When I had my bi-pass I went
to emergency on a Tuesday, the following Tues I had the operation --no
waiting and no worry. I guess outside the large cities there is a problem
of mainly lack of service-like who the hell wants to live in northern
Canada-its true though the emergency depts. are very busy. It's because you
just can't phone up your doctor and go, so people go to the hospitals
and alot should not be there. So now they are opening clinics to take the
presure off the hospitals, but I sure don't have any compaints.

Where were you?

2008-02-23 19:18:22

Where was everyone when I needed you? I needed to stay awake tonight
because of these teenage boys and you guys weren't here to help me.
Why was it such a quiet night? It WAS Friday you know. I have just gone

A scam all should know about Area 809

2008-02-23 07:50:25

Friends please be aware of this scam using area code 804
Should you get an email or a phone call asking you to respond to a phone
number
using this area code it is a scam , no matter what they tell you the reason
is
( such as a relative is sick or in jail , or maybe you won a fantastic prize )
This area code is out side the UNITED STATES
When you call they charge thousands of dollars per minute, much like a 900
number does
Because this area code is located outside the US of A , you dont have any
protection , and because you voluntarily called this area code you have
little defense
against these charges
SO BE AWARE

going on the lawyer thing cause I tried suing with 3 different
attorneys. They agreed I had a case but not an easy enough to prove
or lucrative enough to pursue. I ran out of time last year anyway,

This statement is pretty sad considering the fact that we supposedly

your body you're probably right it isn't right, only doing more harm
by ignoring it, which is why I did because my so called Drs said I
was fine when I wasen't plus anyways 30 year olds don't have strokes

I would have...............

2008-02-21 02:28:03

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER.............
by Erma Bombeck (written after she found out she was dying from
Cancer)
I would have gone to bed when I was sick
instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I
weren't there for the day.
I would have burned the pink candle
sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.
I would have talked less and listened more.
I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was
stained, or the sofa faded.
I would have eaten the popcorn in the good living room and worried
much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the
fireplace.
I would have shared more of the responsibility carried out by my
husband.
I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer
day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.
I would have sat on the lawn with my grass stains. I would have
cried and laughed less while watching television and more while
watching life.
I would never have bought anything just because it was pratical,
wouldn't show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished
every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was
the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.
When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would nevet have said "Later.
Now go get washed up for dinner." There would have been more "I love
you's". More "I'm sorry's."
But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute...
look at it and really see it...live it...and never give it back.
Stop sweating the small stuff.
Don't worry about who doesn't like you, who has more, or who's doing
what.
Instead, let's cherish the relationship we have with those who do
love us.
Let's think about what God HAS blessed us with. And what we are
doing each day to promote ourselves mentally, physically,
emotionally, as we only get one shot at this and then it's gone. I
hope you all have a blessed day.

Re: So called experts

2008-02-20 23:43:56

Drs. don't know anything do they...? I respect my family Dr most...he doesn't
make lite of anything..He called me tonight on my stomach polyps and I just
plain told him I like the surgeon, he is good but for follow ups KISS MY GRITS!
So I told him what I felt...scares the hell out of me. He could understand but
reassured me that under these circumstances it was not unusual to have this...I
told him my plan...I am cutting out red meat, going to soy, eating more small
meal rather then three large...stretch out meals. He thought that sounded good.
I told him I didn't eat much dairy at all but love my cheese pizza...he said to
scrape sauce off and eat less of it...I love my spag. and lasagna...I can eat it
but less. Sounds reasonable to me...I just had my Aciphex refilled so cut out my
pepcid at night and take two Aciphex instead of one...One morning another at
night...if it works good, fine...keep doing it otherwise call him and he will
give me a Rx for Nexium...SO I DO FEEL BETTER TOO...He felt sorry he didn't call
sooner because he thought my surgeon would...WELL!!!
Glad you are feeling better Kristi...Golly we go through enough...SHEESH!
Like my dr said...what I went through is hard on an a healthy person but for us
it is awful...
He did say I may need surgery...BUT I SAID NO WAY...he agreed...too hard on
me...

Insurance

2008-02-20 01:44:30

Insurance...You can't live with it or with out it.
A doctor was telling me that insurance companies dictate to him what he can
and can't to to treat a patient. He told me his hands are tied. He wants to
offer one treatment but the insurance company won't let him.
Another thing, he said that the insurance companies don't pay the full
amount. The insurance companies have a special deal where they only pay him a
fraction of what he would normally charge.
He said that he had to hire someone just to fight the HMO's and PPO's to get
the money they owed him. He had to hire someone extra to try to get payments
from them.
Something in the U.S. Healthcare system has got to change!

COBRA Insurance

2008-02-19 14:24:44

COBRA'S are expensive if not WORSE at the cost then insurance...We looked into

CT scan...

2008-02-15 09:52:50

I woke up with a significant visual field defect.
Went to the ER and they sent me to an optometrist.
The optomestrist ordered a CT scan and it showed
nothing. I was not diagnosed as having had a stroke
until two weeks later - confirmed by an MRI. I think
the ER did not take the symptoms seriously because my
mood was good, I had no paralysis, and my vitals were
normal. The ONLY thing was that I was reporting no
vision in about 1/2 of my visual field in both eyes.
The optometrist knew the seriousness right away and
told me it was likely I had a stroke or brain tumor.
Joy.

miss...I get coughing spells...had to learn to cough and sneeze again...sounds

Hi Bruce

2008-02-12 00:35:56

This is what it is all about. We understand eachother and where we are coming
from. It is sad we hear all about HeartAttacks, HIV and Cancer but Strokes are
so misunderstood and still a big mystery...WHY? Because it hits everyone in a
different way.
I had a minister come see me the other day and he asked me what was one thing
that he should remember while ministering to a stroke victum...FIRST I corrected
him...WE ARE SURVIVORS!! Then I reminded him we are all different so each person
should be looked at differently but we are ANGRY...WE HAVE BEEN ROBBED. We have
to start all over and reinvent ourselves...We cannot function as the person we
were BUT inside we are still that person....Just remember...VENTING is the best
medicine...so is anger...depression is normal. WE have to mourn who we were in
order to be who we are NOW!!
I was 48yrs old...an aerobic instructor, healthy as a horse...who took it very
seriously...I have heart disease on bothsides of the family and won over
cancer...I had cholestral that most people would give their right eye for...I
STILL HAD A MASSIVE stroke. ONLY 3% survive. I should be in a coma or
paralized...HAHAHA! I fought to learn to walk, talk, eat and survive..WE CAN DO
IT...faith and determination....
UNITE is what we have to do...to make the world aware of this awful
illness....stick together...I like to call it "Medical Fields Dirty Little
Secret" no one ever talks about us strokesurvivors....

howdy all

2008-02-10 07:44:50

Hi everyone, I had my day all planned out.Drop my daughter off at work
come get ready stop at hotel for a minute then meet my sister downtown
then ride our bikes to the San Diego zoo. When I got back from dropping
Tricia off my brother told me Rory(a long time close friend) called.I
returned her call, she was crying upset about one of her
daughters.Asked whet I was doing today,I told let me call my sister
and change days on going to the zoo. I called and couldn't get ahold
of my sister so I left her 2 voice messages, then called Rory back and
told her come pick me up when she was ready.Every Tuesday she goes to
her moms house and takes her to do her shopping and erands. They shop
at Ralphs 2 blocks from my hotel.I told them I'll meet them back at
Ralphs after I went to hotel. As I was walking there I got a pill out
and ready to take cause just walking there or thinking about going
there sets a attack off.Well I went to laundry to see everyone got
lots of HUGS :o) Gave a few people my home number and told them it's
ok to pass my number on to anyone there. As I walked to laundry past
the cafeteria I saw Chewy in there, a supervisor in laundry. So on way
out I went in to tell him HI.He asked how I was doing told better but
not 100% yet. I told him I miss laundry but my back can't take loading
big tunnle washer or working in chute room dirty laundry comes
out.HERE WE GO. He asked about me comming back and doing what I was
when I first went to laundry, working evenings start a few hours
before everyone gets off and help, than when they go home I wash
blankets and bedspreads in 400# machine and cleaning shop with my
ghost busters backpack vacumme cleaner. He said he was going to talk to
manager about after he got done with lunch.I'm so excited about this.
oh yea on way back to ralphs I ended up waiting about 15 minutes for
freight train, so when I got to ralphs walked store 2 times and
couldn't find rory or her mom.So I walked to parking garage and they
was in car waiting for me.....LOL....I gave them both a big hug and
told them the good news.Odd how things work out.I went with Rory cause
she called me cause she was feeling very depressed and told her none
of this about me going back to work would have happened if she didn't
call me to be with her today. She saw how happy I was about this and I
could tell she was feeling better.I've learned never say no to a
friend that needs help.so now I'm going to take a
nap....LOL...((((HAPPYhugs)))) Del

Creed to Live by

2008-02-09 20:30:59

Blank Don't undermine your worth by comparing yourself to others. It is because
we are different that each of us is special.
Don't set your goals by what other people deem important. Only you know what is
best for you.
Don't take for granted the things closest to your heart. Cling to them as you
would your life, for without them, life is meaningless.
Don't let life slip through your fingers by living in the past or for the
future. By living your life one day at a time, you live all the days of your
life.
Don't give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over
until the moment you stop trying.
Don't be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect. It is this fragile
thread that binds us to each other.
Don't be afraid to encounter risks. It is by taking chances that we learn to be
brave.
Don't shut love out of your life by saying it is impossible to find. The
quickest way to receive love is to give love. The fastest way to lose love is to
hold it too tightly; and the best way to keep love is to give it wings.
Don't dismiss your dreams. To be without dreams is to be without hope; to be
without hope is to be without purpose.
Don't run through life so fast that you forget not only where you've been, but,
also where you are going. Life is not a race, but, a journey to be savored each
step of the way. ~~~~~~

I TRIED BOTOX A FEW YEARS AGO IT DIDN'T DO A THING FOR ME!!!!!!!!!! AND ABOUT
THE WRINKLES NO WRINKLES EITHER!!!!!!!!!!!

TIA?

2008-02-09 01:32:28

I dunno if I had a TIA or what? They couldn't find anything wrong
but I personally think I escaped a big one again :( just by the
signs I was having. You'd think after 3 healthy years I'd be fine.
Least I get some kind of advance warning. Alot smarter now.

Re: Coumadin

2008-02-07 22:43:26

Your Doctor knows best what you should do -- he/she will tell you the
appropriate dose when there is a missed day.
Coumadin takes a while to build up, and also takes a while to "go
down," but there can be a fair lag between when you miss a dose, and
when the "valley" shows up in INR. I had to stop taking coumadin
before my surgery this fall, and after 2 days with no coumadin, my
INR had only fallen from 2.4 to 2.1 (but 2.1 was low enough for the
surgeons).
The drug works on several clotting factors, and the action is
indirect. Basically, to make 4 of the factors in the clotting
cascade, a certain form of Vitamin K is needed as a catalyst.
Coumadin keeps the "used" vitamin K catalyst from being recycled.
Those factors that require the catalyst are made less when you have
coumadin in your system; they build up gradually, but at different
speeds, when coumadin is removed. Even the INR test isn't all that
accurate, since it only measures the level of one factor
(prothrombin). I hope I've convinced you that coumadin's effect is a
mess!

How many? How long?

2008-02-07 17:32:13

I'm taking a poll.......lol
#1.HOW MANY people sleep or nap ALOT more then they did pre stroke?
#2.HOW LONG would you say you sleep during each of these naps?
HUGS Cindy

Re: How many? How long?

2008-02-07 11:34:44

FOR OVER 30 YEARS, UNTIL 2 DAYS BEFORE MY STROKE, I WENT TO BED AT MIDNIGHT,
GOT UP AT 6:00. I STAYED UP REALLY LATE ON WEEKENDS, SLEPT IN TILL 10:00
EASILY. I NEVER NAPPED.
POST-STROKE, I NAPPED EVERY AFTERNOON IF NOT IN THERAPY, USUALLY ABOUT A
HOUR, NEVER MORE THAN TWO HOURS(BECAUSE OF MY BLADDER). FOR MONTHS, I WAS
UPSET IF NOT IN BED BY 8:00, BUT NOW I GO TO BED AT 11:00. I WAKE AT LEAST
ONCE A NIGHT, USUALLY BETWEEN 3:00 AND 4:30, THEN A FEW HOURS LATER. IN THE
LAST MONTH OR TWO, I'VE BEEN GETTING 8 HOURS OF SLEEP MORE OFTEN. I RARELY NAP
DELIBERATELY, BUT TV AND MOVIES KNOCK ME OUT FAST--BUT NEVER FOR MORE THAN 2
HOURS.

I am back!!

2008-02-06 02:48:01

Still very weak but okay. They found a hiatal hernia, polups and
gastroitis...which didn't surprise me at all. The hernia was caused by my
stroke. The surgeon, hubby and I talked and we all agree that the stomach
problems and hernia were from my stroke. I NEVER had this problem before...I
could eat everything and anything but he agreed the stroke had messed up my
insides like crazy. SO my best bet is to watch my eating (which I had been
anyway) and do what I have. My family doc may change my meds. But this is
working (asephix) as well as any so what the heck....I asked about the polups
and he isn't worried about them...he took a couple but they had no
characteristics of anything serious...just THERE as he said. I was miserable
yesterday...slept most of the day...I slept the clock around and feel better...I
sure am glad that is over. As Dr Gary said it is hard enough on a person who is
healthy but for me is was pure misery...OH MAN...Now I am going to try to eat
soft foods today. I stayed on liquids yesterday. Warm chicken broth and tea..My
throat was so sore I had my hubby talk to my mom and kids...today it is much
better...the warm soup or broth helped. Good to be back and thank you all for
the well wishes and prayers...THEY HELPED!!

My only issue with Disability S.S. is that it isn't taxed appropriately.

Re: Hello everyone/DISABILITY STRUGGLES

2008-02-04 09:15:28

It is so disheartening to read that so many have struggled to qualify for
disability aid. Why must the system compound our problems? It seems so cold
and heartless, especially for the young, who are often unable to work, yet
must continue to pay the bills and keep family fed and housed. I know more
and more how fortunate I was to have been poised for early retirement, to
have had no mortgage or car loans, and to have qualified immediately for
Social Security. Where are the advocates who could make life a little
easier?

2008-02-03 00:02:27

New York, NY - On Sunday, February 9, 2003 ABC World News Tonight aired their
segment on the Maytag Plant closing in Galesburg, IL. The focus was on the
1,600 IAM members that will lose their jobs to workers making 50 cents per hour
in Mexico, the devastating loss to the community in revenue and income, and
helped put a face on the thousands of people whose lives will be turned upside
down.
Since 1994, the greater Galesburg community invested in Maytag through training
grants, low interest loans, corporate tax reductions, local sales tax increase,
enterprise zone monies etc. The workforce at Maytag invested in the company by
negotiating terms that resulted in the Company proclaiming that our members had
made the sacrifices that would keep the plant in Galesburg. Last year that
investment paid off--- for Maytag. The corporation had a 2002 sales increase of
11.5% and a net income increase of 65.6%. The investment did not, however, pay
off for the workforce or the community. One in twelve Galesburg residents works
at Maytag. Families (husbands, wives, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers) make
up 45% of the workforce. The devastation of Maytag moving to Mexico will
financially impact generations. It will be impossible for family members to
financially help each other through this difficult time, when they all depended
on Maytag for their livelihood.
Below are the results of a second study done by the Rural Economic Technical
Assistance Center (RETAC) at the Western Illinois University. The previous
study took into consideration the economic and employment impact on Knox County.
This new study was expanded to include the impact on the nine county area around
Galesburg, IL
Producing an annual product value of $320.3 million in 2002, Maytag Plant is the
top industry in the 9-County Region. By shutting down Maytag operations, the
total output for the region would decrease approximately $540.4 million. In
2002, there were 1,600 people employed directly by the Maytag Plant in
Galesburg, Knox County. Total employment (direct, indirect, and induced) loss
generated by plant closure in this region would be approximately 4,166:
1,837 jobs loss spread throughout the remainder of the local economy.
Total employee compensation in the 9-County Region would decrease by $138.2
million per year. Total value-added generated by the household refrigerators and
freezers industry in the county exceeded $92 million, in 2002. The household
refrigerators and freezers industry represented a large share of the regional
economy in the 9-County Region. The Tax Impact of the Maytag Plant closure is
estimated as follows:
1,600 at the Maytag plant operations,
· 729 jobs lost from indirect effects (Maytag suppliers), and an
additional
· $40.2 million decrease in tax receipts for Federal Government, and
· $14.8 million decrease in tax receipts for State and Local Governments.
Therefore, based on the results of the IMPLAN analysis, the closure of the
Maytag Plant operation, as predicted, would have, indeed, an important negative
economic impact on the 9-County Region economy.
The following table represents the employment level loss generated by the Maytag
Plant closure to the top 34 most affected industries from the Illinois 9-County
Region. The numbers represent Direct Employment Loss (Maytag workers), Indirect
Employment Loss (Maytag subcontracts and purchases), and Ripple Effect Loss
because of the plant closing.

Fish Tacos for Valentine's Day!

2008-02-01 01:00:46

We went out to Rubio's Baha Grill for Valentine's Day! Most of the
patrons were wearing red, so apparently it was a more popular
Valentine's Day spot than we supposed beforehand. We prefer Rubio's
(a fast food place) to a fancy restaurant, because...
We don't overeat.
We get what we want.
We don't get sick from the meal.
They leave us alone, and we can have a quiet conversation (except for
the 3 people who insisted on talking on their cell phones in the
first 5 minutes).
Then we went to a neighbor's house, where we are cat-sitting, and
played with their cat for 45 minutes.
A purrfect Valentine's Day.
